Bas Konings (1962) has a lifelong passion for oil paint – light and colour – and the constant discovery of their potential. A keen sense of colour gives a magic touch to the still lives and portraits by this artist.
His source of inspiration is the surprising beauty of people, animals and objects from daily life – the great masters of the 20th century and his marriage of 33 years to the painter Anke Brokstra (1940-2021).
After living in Amsterdam and various other places in the Netherlands, he lived for a long time in Portugal, France and Germany. In recent years he led a somewhat reclusive life on a farm in the northeast of the Netherlands. Since the beginning of this year he permanently resides in central France.
His works have a distinctive style, exuding a classical touch with impressionistic elements. Quoting Bas :“At some point a painting can suddenly transcend – the canvas and the paint – and come to life, generating a feeling I always long to return to”. His works found their way all over the world, to aficionados, collectors and among others the Flamenco museum in Sevilla, Spain.

Bas Konings (1962) heeft een levenslange passie voor olieverf, licht en kleur en het steeds opnieuw ontdekken wat daarmee mogelijk is. Zijn intense kleurgevoel geeft een magische kracht aan de stillevens en portretten van deze kunstenaar.
Hij vindt zijn inspiratie in de verassende schoonheid van mensen, dieren en objecten uit het dagelijkse leven – de grote meesters van de 20e eeuw – en zijn huwelijk van 33 jaar met de schilderes Anke Brokstra (1940-2021)
Na gewoond te hebben in Amsterdam en op diverse andere plaatsen in Nederland, woonde hij lange tijd in Portugal, Frankrijk en Duitsland. De laatste jaren leidde hij een teruggetrokken bestaan op het Groningse platteland. Sinds begin dit jaar woont en werkt hij permanent in midden Frankrijk.
Zijn schilderijen hebben een herkenbare stijl waarin een klassieke uitstraling samenkomt met impressionistische elementen. “Er is een moment dat een schilderij op magische wijze – loskomt van het doek en de verf – en gaat ‘leven’, dat geeft een gevoel waar ik altijd naar terug verlang” aldus Bas Konings.
Zijn werken zijn over de hele wereld verspreid geraakt bij liefhebbers en verzamelaars en o.a. in het Flamenco-museum in Sevilla, Spanje.
